Hebrews 1:4

                “Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name then they.”  

                Verse 4 sets the tone that the entire book is going to proceed to take and theme we will see time and time again. Better things! I will not name them all here but in Dakes study Bible he proceeds to point out 35 ways Christ was better than the angels. These range from Christ partaking in humanity to being the creator of the angels themselves! Christ, while on this earth, proved Himself greater than His creation!

                One thing that Dake does well again on is breaking down how this verse sets up the book in Christ being better. He breaks it down in the following ways. We see He is better than the prophets in 1:1-3, the angels in 1:4-2:18, Moses in 3:1-18, Joshua in 4:1-13, the High Priest in 4:14-6:12, Melchizedek in 7:1-10, Abraham in 6:13-7:10, Aaron and earthly priests in 7:11-8:6. old covenant sacrifices in 8:7-10:39, old covenant faith in 11;1-12:2, and parents and others in Hebrews 12:3-13:25.

                This verse begins the majority of this journey. From this point going forward the book will show us how things under Christ are superior to ANYTHING under the law. It is all made better and more complete by and in Christ. The next portion of verses we will look at is a further break down of how Christ is better then the angels as covered in Hebrews 1:5-2:18. So it will be a much longer passage with more to break down as we journey through and I hope you will follow along and that we can all learn something together as we study and learn about better things.
